About
About the Dirty Reiver
The Dirty Reiver is now in its 10th year (but with 9 editions due to Covid) and is the UK’s biggest gravel event. Based in and around Kielder Forest in the English-Scottish Borders, the event makes use of the extensive gravel trail network across this area. With hundreds of kilometres of tracks to choose from, we are able to change the course every few years to keep it fresh and ensure that riders always have new vistas to explore.
Many riders return year after year to ride this unique area around the borders. The gravel is second to none and the three distances ensure that there is a ride for everyone.
Event Sustainability
Focal Events, the creators of the Dirty Reiver, are committed to protecting, conserving and promoting our surroundings and we encourage all our riders to join us in this.
During the event we do our best to uphold these values and we encourage third party suppliers to work with us in this way wherever possible.
Much of our waste is recycled and we aim to reduce our impact in the following ways:
- re-use or recycle where possible
- use compostable plates/bowls
- utilise riders’ bottles at feeds to reduce plastic
- provide bins en route for waste
- have a dedicated team to check the trails post event
- limit and reuse plastic signage
- limit use of plastic course tape – or reuse where possible
