The Dirty Reiver
A single 200 km loop — a real test of stamina, skill and self-reliance. Be prepared for a long day in the saddle as you tackle one of the most iconic routes on the gravel scene. All on hard packed, fast rolling gravel deep in the forests of the northern borders.
Built for Riders Who Go All In
For riders after a big day in the saddle – a real early season tester and for many a gravel ‘rite of passage’. You should be comfortable self-supported over a long distance and prepared for remote terrain and changeable weather. This route suits those who have had a good winter training and experience of long days in the saddle.
- A full‑day adventure across the complete Reiver loop
- Staying self‑supported over a serious off‑road distance
- Long gravel sectors that demand focus, strength, and resilience
Terrain & Elevation Overview
The 200 km route features the complex network of wide trails around Kielder and Wark Forests. Riders will be on hard packed gravel – typical of the original Gravel Grinder format found in the US.
After an initial loop in Kielder, crossing the famous Dam wall riders head into the fast trails towards the south. A return climb is soon rewarded by fast descents towards the Lake.
A final northern loop completes the day, reaching a highpoint of over 450m on the iconic Blakehope Nick, followed by the traditional ‘gentler’ finish along the shoreline and across the Kielder viaduct.
Climbs are steady and riders should be prepared for a full day off-road. This classic route, features everything that makes gravel riding special.
Predominantly fast-rolling gravel on the forest access network, with remote sections. 2027 routes may change with weather and forestry work; the GPX is published two to three weeks before the event via Ride with GPS.
